Part 1

My grand-grandmother always used to say to my mother about a very cold country, with a lot of snow on the winter and that the family will not forget their roots in Poland, that the family should keep in heart memories from Poland. She told family that in Poland people planted vegetables only in the summer. The snow covered the whole surface of land in the winter and people couldn't plant. They made vegetables in conserve to eat in the winter. She told that because we don't have snow in Brazil and people can plant during the whole year. Then we have the custom to eat vegetables in conserve like cucumber. When my mother was 7 years old she began to attend the elementary school. She didn't speak Portuguese, only Polish, like many children who was descendents of immigrants. She learned Portuguese at school when she was at first grade. My grandfather made wood furnitures to use on his house like the first immigrants made when they arrived here. My grandfather and my grandmother slept on the soft tall small wood bed like the first immigrants (Brazilian beds are bigger).

Part 2

When my grandgrandgrandfather Lucasz came to Brazil, his family worked on the small farm. My grandfather Estanislau worked on the planted land too. When he moved to city he worked as carpenter building wood houses. All sisters and brothers of my grandfather live still on the small farms and they work on the planted land. Francisco, who was my grandfather's father worked on the planted land and he knew like to build water mills. My grandgrandgrandfather died on cart's accident. When he died my grandfather Estanislau was a married man. My mother worked on planted land too. To work on planted land was a job which fathers taught to children very early, since they was 6 years old. They went to the school in the morning and at the afternoon they helped their parents on the planted land because they were very poor. Schools were very far from their houses and they had to walk some km by foot or by horse. My grandfather Estanislau studied only during the first grade. In the morning he learned Portuguese and on the afternoon he learned to write and read in Polish. When he came back to his house he had to work on the planted land at evening. They studied very little because they need to work and the schools were very far from their houses. When I was 6 years old my parents sold their small farm and moved to a small village where they had a small grocerie. Then I went to the school but I had many difficulties because I could study near my house only during the elementary school. After 5Ş grade I had study far my house and I went to the school by bus.
